Easy Kid Friendly Black Bean Brownie Batter Dip

Technically a dessert hummus, but we don’t HAVE to tell the kids! 😉😂

If you’re looking for a chocolatey snack that is both satisfying and nutritious, this Easy Black Bean Brownie Batter Dipis a great option. It has the rich taste of brownie batter while being made with wholesome ingredients, including black beans as the base.

The black beans provide fiber and protein, making this dip more filling than traditional dessert options. The texture is smooth and creamy, and the chocolate flavor is strong enough that most people won’t realize they’re eating beans. And it’s SO easy to make! I throw everything in our Ninja Blender and it makes such quick work of it!

A Nutritious Dessert Option

Serve this dip to kids or guests without mentioning the main ingredient at first. Let them enjoy it, then share that it’s made with black beans. Most will be surprised, but by that point, they’ll already be convinced by the taste. Another great healthy snack that the kids will devour is Peanut Butter Filled Dates! We can’t make them fast enough!

Why This Brownie Batter Dip Stands Out:

✔️ Naturally Sweetened – Uses healthier sweeteners instead of refined sugar
✔️ High in Protein & Fiber – A more balanced dessert choice
✔️ Quick & Simple to Make – Requires only a few ingredients and little prep time

This dip pairs well with fruit, graham crackers, pretzels or simply a spoon as an edible brownie batter. It’s an easy way to enjoy a chocolate treat while keeping ingredients clean and nutritious.

Ingredients

  • Black Beans: we like these organic ones from Walmart or the Simple Truth Brand from Kroger
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Maple Syrup: we buy local, or this one from Costco
  • Coconut SugarMadhava Organic Unrefined Coconut Sugar is an affordable and great option
*if you don’t have coconut sugar, you can add more maple syrup as a substitute, or sweetener of your choice
  • Vanilla Extract– Be sure to get pure vanilla, not imitation vanilla. Homemade Vanilla is even better!
  • Salt
  • Milk: a dairy free milk will work great also
  • Peanut Butter or any nut butter of choice: Aim to go organic here, peanuts be among the crops that tend to have higher glyphosate residues, They are often sprayed right before harvest, which is known as desiccation, used to dry out crops quickly, making harvesting easier, and is more common in conventionally grown peanuts. Costco and Walmart both have great organic options.
  • Chocolate Chips-optional. The Bake Believe brand is a fantastic clean option for chocolate chips! We like the dark chocolate, but they also make a semi sweet and milk chocolate. They are hit or miss to find at Costco, so if you see them, snatch them up!

Why Black Beans Are Awesome for You

Let’s talk about black beans for a minute. They’re not just for your favorite Mexican dishes or that side dish at dinner — they’re actually packed with a ton of benefits that make them a solid addition to your diet. Seriously, if you’re not already eating them, now’s the time to start.

Packed with Protein

First off, black beans are an excellent source of plant-based protein. Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, or just looking to mix things up, these little guys can help you hit your protein goals. Just one cup of black beans has about 15 grams of protein. That’s pretty much the same as eating a piece of chicken or fish, but in a way that’s a little friendlier to the planet (and your wallet).

High in Fiber

Next, let’s talk about fiber. Black beans are fiber-packed, and that’s a big win for your digestive system. Fiber helps keep things moving (if you catch my drift), reduces bloating, and even supports heart health. Plus, it helps you feel full longer, so if you’re trying to control your appetite, black beans are a great option. So, if you’re on the hunt for something that fills you up without leaving you feeling sluggish, black beans got your back.

Nutrient-Rich

But wait, there’s more! Black beans are loaded with other important nutrients too, like ironmagnesiumfolate, and potassium. These minerals support everything from your heart to your muscles. Iron is especially great for boosting your energy, so if you’re feeling tired all the time, adding more black beans to your meals might give you that extra boost.

Low in Fat, High in Nutrients

Another reason black beans are worth adding to your meals is that they’re super low in fat. They’re also low in calories while still offering tons of nutrients, making them an excellent option if you’re watching your weight. They won’t load you up with empty calories like some processed foods, so you can snack on them guilt-free. Whether you throw them in a salad, mix them into a soup, or use them in tacos, they’re a great way to add substance to your meals.

Great for Blood Sugar Control

If you’re trying to keep your blood sugar in check (hello, balanced energy levels), black beans are a solid choice. They have a low glycemic index, meaning they don’t cause spikes in blood sugar like some other carbs. Plus, the fiber in them slows down digestion, which helps keep your energy steady throughout the day.

Simple to Add to Your Diet

The best part? Black beans are super easy to add to your diet. They come canned, frozen, or dried, so you can always find a convenient way to toss them into any meal. They’re affordable, versatile, and taste good in pretty much anything.

So there you have it — black beans are not only delicious but they’re packed with proteinfibervitamins, and more. They’re definitely worth adding to your regular rotation if you want to boost your nutrition without a lot of extra effort. Next time you’re cooking, just grab a can of black beans and watch how easy it is to level up your meals.

Instructions for Easy Black Bean Brownie Batter Dip

  1. Drain and rinse the beans really well. I like to keep rinsing until the water run clear. Add all of the ingredients to a blender or food processor except the milk.
  2. Blend 1-2 minutes or until completely smooth. If it’s too thick, add in the milk, otherwise, leave it out.
  3. If you are adding chocolate chips, you can fold them in now (You just fold it in David!…Schitt’s Creek fan will appreciate this, others may think I’m losing it😂). If you have time, pop it in the fridge to allow the flavors to blend together, but sometimes we break this rule and just dive in! 😉 Serve the Easy Black Bean Brownie Batter Dip with whatever your heart desires…..strawberries, apple slices, on a slice of toast or we love these organic pretzel thins also found at Kroger and Costco!
