How to Make Homemade Peanut Butter with Honey🐝🐝🥜🥜
Let’s talk about peanut butter for a second. We all love it, right? Spread on toast, stirred into oatmeal, or just eaten straight off the spoon (no judgment). But have you ever looked at the ingredients in most store-bought peanut butter? If you haven’t, you might want to—because there can be a culprit lurking in there: bad oils. Over time, they can cause inflammation in your body, which is the last thing you want from your favorite snack.
Making your own homemade peanut butter with honey is ridiculously easy, way more delicious, and you get to skip the weird oils, added sugars, and preservatives that most store brands are trying to pass off as “peanut butter.” You can customize it however you like—add a little honey for sweetness, or keep it simple and pure. Let’s talk about the taste for a second—because honestly, when you make peanut butter at home, it’s on a whole other level. If you’ve been living off store-bought peanut butter for years, you might not even realize how much better homemade peanut butter can be. But once you try it, you’ll never look at that jar on the shelf the same way again.
First off, homemade peanut butter has a fresher, more authentic flavor. There’s nothing in it that doesn’t need to be there—no weird preservatives, no added sugars, no questionable oils. What you get is pure, roasted peanut flavor, and that’s something store-bought versions just can’t match. The peanuts are toasted to perfection, and the moment you blend them into a smooth, creamy spread, you get this rich, natural taste that’s hard to beat.
Plus, when you make your own peanut butter, you get to control the texture. Want it super creamy? Done. Prefer a little crunch? You can do that, too. There’s something so satisfying about creating the exact texture you want—whether you like it silky smooth or with a bit of bite. And let’s be real, the texture of peanut butter can make or break a snack. When you get it just right, you’ll find yourself reaching for a spoon instead of a knife.
Homemade peanut butter is personalized. You can adjust the sweetness, saltiness, or even the thickness of it to match your preferences. Maybe you love a little honey to sweeten the deal, or perhaps you prefer to keep it unsweetened for a more savory spread. Whatever you decide, the flavor will be perfectly tailored to your taste buds.
And then there’s the aroma. Have you ever opened a jar of store-bought peanut butter and thought, “This smells kind of…flat”? That’s because a lot of mass-produced peanut butter has been sitting on a shelf for who knows how long, losing its freshness and that rich, roasted aroma. When you make peanut butter at home, though, you’re greeted with that warm, nutty scent the moment you start blending.
And let’s not forget the health factor—because homemade peanut butter not only tastes better, but it’s also better for you. Without all the added oils, sugars, and chemicals that you get in commercial peanut butter, you’re left with a cleaner, more wholesome spread. That means you can enjoy it guilt-free, knowing exactly what’s in it and how fresh it is. Plus, without the extra junk, you’re really getting all the natural goodness of the peanuts themselves. Fresh, pure, and packed with protein.
Once you’ve tasted homemade peanut butter, it’s tough to go back to the jarred stuff. The flavor, the texture, the ability to make it exactly how you like it—it’s a whole new level of peanut butter bliss. So, if you haven’t tried making it at home yet, what are you waiting for? Trust me, your taste buds will thank you.
If you can get your hands on organic peanuts, that’s definitely the way to go—if you can find them. But, they’re not always the easiest to track down and they might cost a little more.
Organic peanuts are grown without all the junk that’s sprayed on conventional peanuts—things like pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals that you really don’t want in your food. Peanuts are sprayed just before they’re harvested so those residues can linger, even after the peanuts are roasted and processed. The chemicals that get used on non-organic peanuts can actually cause inflammation over time, which is definitely not what you want from a snack you love.
If you come across them, stock up. You’ll have that peace of mind knowing your peanut butter is as pure and tasty as it gets.
Directions
- Put the roasted peanuts and honey into your blender or food processor. If using a blender, a better blender is going to help to get the job done! We love our Ninja Blender!
- Blend or process until smooth. I recommend doing this a few minutes at time and then giving your machine a break so it doesn’t overheat. It will take a couple of rounds until it is smooth or to your desired consistency.
- You can store this is a glass container or a mason jar with a lid. These are the lids we have, they get a ton of use! Can be stored at room temperature, but we like to keep it in the fridge so it doesn’t need stirred again if the oils separate. One of our favorite things to do is spread peanut butter on a piece of sourdough bread from The Good Stuff Bake Shop, add banana slices and Bake Believe chocolate chips for a quick breakfast or snack!
