Homemade copycat Chili’s Santa Fe sauce made with clean ingredients and no seed oils in a small glass bowl

The Best Clean Ingredient Copycat Santa Fe Sauce

If you have ever had the famous Santa Fe Salad or the Santa Fe Burger at Chili’s, you know it is all about that smoky, tangy, zesty sauce. It is the kind of flavor that keeps you coming back for more. But as a recipe developer, I am always looking at what is actually inside those restaurant squeeze bottles.

Most restaurant dressings and “special sauces” rely on soybean oil, high fructose corn syrup, and artificial liquid smoke. I knew I could create a version that tastes just as bold but uses real-food staples from my own pantry. This Clean-Label Santa Fe Sauce is the result! It is creamy, lime-infused, and has that perfect southwestern kick without any seed oils or synthetic additives.

The Good Stuff Ingredient Swaps

To make this a truly “Better Than” version of the original, we are making a few intentional choices:

The Mayo: Most store-bought mayo and restaurant sauces use soybean or canola oil as a cheap filler. I recommend swapping that for an Avocado Oil Mayonnaise (like Chosen Foods or Primal Kitchen) or making your own mayonnaise!

The Citrus: We are skipping the bottled lime juice. Using Fresh Lime Juice provides those bright, natural enzymes and a zing that you just cannot get from a concentrate.

The Smoke: We use Smoked Paprika to get that deep, outdoor-grill flavor. This allows us to avoid “natural smoke flavors” or liquid smoke, which can often contain hidden additives.

How to Use This Versatile Sauce

One of the reasons I love keeping a jar of this Clean Santa Fe Sauce in the fridge is how many ways you can use it throughout the week:

  1. The Famous Santa Fe Salad: Toss it with chopped romaine, corn, black beans, avocado, and tortilla strips for that classic restaurant vibe at home.
  2. Copycat Santa Fe Sliders: This is the star ingredient in my upcoming Santa Fe Slider recipe! It cuts through the richness of the beef and cheese perfectly.
  3. Taco Night: Use it as a zesty crema for shrimp tacos or Chicken Fajita Foil Packets – Easy Camping Dinner.
  4. Dip for Veggies: It makes a fantastic dip for sliced bell peppers, cucumbers, or even Simple Oven-Baked Asparagus Fries with a Parmesan Crunch.

The “Clean-Label” Bonus: Keto, Gluten-Free, and Dairy-Free!

“One of my favorite things about this Clean Santa Fe Sauce is that it’s naturally inclusive. Because we are using real-food ingredients and skipping the processed fillers, this recipe is:

  • Keto & Low-Carb: With no added refined sugars, this fits perfectly into a low-carb lifestyle.
  • Gluten-Free: We use 100% pure spices, so there’s no hidden gluten or ‘modified food starch’ to worry about.
  • Dairy-Free: Unlike many creamy southwestern dressings that rely on buttermilk or sour cream, our avocado oil mayo base keeps this 100% dairy-free without sacrificing that rich, silky texture.”

The Bottom Line

You do not have to sacrifice those bold, restaurant-style flavors to keep a clean pantry. Swapping to avocado oil and real spices is a simple way to upgrade your family’s meals while avoiding the extra junk found in commercial dressings.

Homemade copycat Chili’s Santa Fe sauce made with clean ingredients and no seed oils in a small glass bowl

Clean Copycat Chili's Santa Fe Sauce

Yield: 8 Servings
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes

This is a simple dump-and-stir recipe that takes less than five minutes to pull together, is keto, gluten free & dairy free! This copycat recipe is perfect for Santa Fe Burgers & Salads!

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup Avocado oil mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 tsp Chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp Smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Water to thin if needed

Instructions

  1. Mix: In a small glass bowl or mason jar, whisk all ingredients together until smooth and creamy.
  2. Chill: Cover and refrigerate. While you can use it immediately, the flavor peaks after about 30-60 minutes of chilling as the spices marry into the mayo.
  3. Adjust: If the sauce thickens too much in the fridge, simply whisk in a teaspoon of water to bring it back to a drizzling consistency.

Notes

Since this sauce uses fresh lime juice, I recommend storing it in a glass jar in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh and delicious for about 5 to 7 days. This is a great one to make on a Sunday so you have a clean condiment ready for quick weekday lunches or a "Fake-out Friday" family dinner.
