a cleaner swap to a healthier sucker option

The Good Stuff Simple Swap: Dye-Free Suckers

🌿 The Good Stuff Simple Swaps

Every week, I share a one-small-change tip to help you clean up your pantry without losing the flavors your family loves. You can find the full library of my “Better Than” swaps here.

Concession stand season is officially here. If your summer is anything like mine, it involves a lot of time at the ball fields, and let’s be real-the concession stand is basically the main event for the kids.

It’s hard to say no to every single treat, but those neon-colored suckers are usually the first thing they grab. Instead of being the “no” mom, I’ve found that the easiest win is just keeping a better option tucked in my purse.

When the kids are eyeing the “blue raspberry” everything at the ballpark, I just pull out the “Good Stuff” version from my bag. It’s the same fun for them, but without the artificial dyes and corn syrup that we try to avoid.

Why keep a stash in your bag?

I started carrying my own dye-free suckers because it just makes life easier. Whether we’re at a summer game, the store, or out running errands, having a cleaner option on hand means I don’t have to overthink it.

Most of the standard suckers you find at the fields are loaded with:

  • Artificial Dyes (like Red 40): These are the big ones I try to swap out to avoid.
  • High Fructose Corn Syrup: Just a lot of extra junk that doesn’t need to be there.

The swap is so simple. Cleaner brands use things like blackcurrants and carrots for color and real fruit juice for flavor. They taste great, and honestly, the kids don’t even care that they aren’t neon-they’re just happy to have a sucker.

My Go-To “Purse Stash” Picks:

1. YumEarth Organic Pops These are the ones I buy in bulk. They’re flavored and colored with real fruit juice and they’re free from the top 8 allergens, which is great for sharing with friends at the field.

2. Zolli Pops They’re actually sugar-free (sweetened with xylitol), so I feel a little better about them having a second one during a double-header!
