Good Stuff Simple Swap: Fruity Candy Edition-Better for you Fruity Candy
๐ฟ The Good Stuff Simple Swaps โ Every Wednesday I share a new Good Stuff Simple Swap. One simple change that helps clean up your everyday eats without overhauling your whole pantry. You can find all the swaps here!
Halloween is right around the corner, which means we are officially in candy season. Youโll be seeing more “Better Than” sweet swaps from me soon, but letโs start with fruity candy!
Those bright reds, yellows, and blues are often created using synthetic dyes like Red 40 and Yellow 5. These are petroleum-derived additives that many families choose to avoid. While the U.S. still allows these ingredients, many countries in Europe require warning labels on foods containing them because of concerns regarding their impact on children’s focus and behavior.
Since kids are smaller, these synthetic ingredients can really add up during the holidays. Choosing dye-free candy is a simple way to prioritize real-food ingredients without missing out on the fun.
Letโs be real:ย Itโs still candy-not a replacement for an apple! Lol. But if youโre going to treat your kids (or yourself!), choosing options made with fruit and vegetable juices for color is a much “cleaner” way to celebrate.

If youโre handing out Halloween goodies, consider candy-free treats too. Little toys, stickers, glow sticks, or mini notebooks are a fun way to include kids who canโt have dyes or certain ingredients.
